OHIM organises a successful series of seminars for judges in the national courts of EU Member States. In addition, every two years the office organises the European Judges’ Symposium - recognised as one of the most prestigious conferences for discussion of developments in Community trade mark and design law.
The regular seminars are run as practical working sessions for CTM and RCD judges in member states. They deal with the latest legal issues and aim to promote harmonization in the application of Community trade mark and Community design regulations at all jurisdictional levels. The current seminar series, running during 2010-2010 is expected to attract participation from more than 300 judges in total.
The European Judges’s Symposium takes the form of a major legal conference and networking event. It attracts participation from a much wider group of judges and decision-makers, including the Court of Justice, the European Commision, and leading experts from the IP world. The last symposium in October 2009 had a special emphasis on issues related to taking action on counterfeiting and was attended by around 120 participants from all over Europe.
Attendance at the seminar series and symposium is by invitation, and in order to allow a free exchange of views, most of the detailed discussions take place in private.
