Council agrees to entrust OHIM with Observatory

The Council of the European Union backed the proposal to entrust OHIM with the EU Observatory on Infringements of IP Rights at a meeting on 22 March.

The Regulation proposing the change, which was drafted by the Commission, has already been passed by the European Parliament. It is expected to take effect towards the end of May.

Welcoming the Council decision, OHIM President António Campinos said that the Observatory would act as a credible and independent body ensuring "better understanding of IP".
