Tribute to OHIM President in China

OHIM President Wubbo de Boer receives a plaque paying tribute to his contribution to the development of cooperation with China on trade mark issues from Ambassador Serge Abou, Head of the EU Delegation to China .

The presentation took place during the General Assembly of the EU Chamber of Commerce in China. Mr de Boer attended the assembly as part of a mission to China last month, during which a new cooperation framework was agreed with the Chinese authorities.

Highlights of the mission include meetings with Vice Minister Fu Shuangjian (State Administration for Industry and Commerce, SAIC) and Commissioner Tian Lipu (State IP Office, SIPO) on 29 April, when new agreements were reached on a series of actions to be carried out under the EU-China IPR 2 project and under bilateral agreements. On the President's invitation, both Chinese leaders expressed interest in visiting OHIM in the coming months.

The agreed actions include:

  • Traineeships for skilled examiners at OHIM.
  • Seminars in Europe and in China to increase awareness on the Community and Chinese trade mark and design systems.
  • Exchanges of best practices through workshops on user satisfaction, classification on designs, and quality management.
  • Access to databases.
  • Dissemination of information for Chinese users in Mandarin.

During the mission, OHIM experts also gave presentations to the Chinese trade mark and design authorities and held a seminar on the CTM for the local Chengdu IP community.
