Spotlight on “Class scopes”

The latest edition of the IPC&C (cooperate and converge) newsletter focuses on the breakthrough agreement at a technical level reached by experts from national IP offices, user associations and OHIM on the principles of a new common practice in the Convergence of Class Headings project.

This agreement at a technical level on the principles was established by the working group during a recent convergence meeting, whereby a structure of “class scopes” will be used which, ideally, represent the content of a given class at a given time.

Following the agreed principles, the hierarchical structures - based on the Nice classification- will be further completed, together with the class scopes. This will then be taken to the liaison meeting, and as a last step presented at the Administrative Board in November, for final endorsement.

The IPC&C online newsletter provides updates on Cooperation Fund and Convergence Programme activities, and is now available for download in 22 languages.
